On 19th November was world toilet day.
What are you doing to improve access to improved sanitation around the world today?
In Malawi, current nationwide household sanitation facilities indicate a pit latrine with slab as the most common type of improved toilet/latrine facility in Malawi, (Table 2; Malawi Government, National Statistical Office and ICF Macro 2011). But, the data also exhibits only 8.8% of the population is using an improved, not shared toilet/latrine, facility, whereas 75.8% are using a pit latrine without a slab/open pit, a non-improved facility. This shows there is still much work for all of us towards safe and sustainable sanitation.
