In May a so called School Water Filter Mzuzu Model was constructed, a new low-cost clean water technology. This filter can turn river water into safe drinking water and has a filter capacity of 500 litres per day. The cost of a complete filter is around 300 US$ and consists of two wire cement tanks and Tulip Siphon filters. Another benefit is the filter and storage capacity can be increased as needed. The next step will be testing of the technology on schools in Mzuzu to get experience with efficiency, ease of use, maintenance etc.
